Rugeley occurs as market town in the county of Staffordshire, England. It lies on the northern edge of Cannock Chase, and is placed about center between a towns of Stafford, Cannock, Lichfield, and Uttoxeter. A River Trent, the Trent and Mersey Canal, and a West Coast Main Line railway pass through the town. A village of Brereton is immediately adjacent to the south-east.

A town, historically referred to as Rudgeley, is utilized in the Domesday Book. In the mediaeval period, it thrived on iron workings and was likewise the places of glass manufacturing. the town was a centre of coal mining until 1991, when a Lea Hall pit was demolished. William Palmer
Around 1855, the town gained ill fame while the local doctor, William Palmer, was accused of murdering an acquaintance, John Parsons Cook.
